Showtime is unmemorable, not very fun (outside Remix 3), not used much, only in Tengoku and worst of all, I suck at it (/s). The Bon Dance, however, gives you HELLISH claps, more lag and an inconsistent measuring system. Great gameplay, works well on non-laggy devices or GBAs, and amazing song. The Bon Odori is super fun and one of my absolute faves. The others are just stupid for lesser reasons. Hearing that trumplet blaring super loud in your ears all the while seeing your Superb (or even Perfect) fade away due to a stupid unhittable clap. It sounds like it was made using GBA MIDI instruments, but worse. Not to mention the music, even in Megamix, sounds like it was made for the GBA instead of just being compressed in the original (Tengoku had HQ versions of their songs that were compressed to reduce lag and fit the GBA. Also the fact that the scoring system in Tengoku is harsh and that in all games, MISSING THE SIMULTANEOUS CLAP COSTS YOUR SUPERB. The rest is pretty lame and damn hard to hit (feels like luck). There's only one mildly interesting part, and that's the bridge. It's the exact same clap throughout almost the whole song, an actual impossible on your first try simultaneous clap that's ALSO the Skill Star, which is also still near-unhittable even later on (due to the moment in the song being awkward and the clap not being on an easy-to-recognize beat). It's The Bon Dance, Showtime and The Snappy Trio. I may or may not also be a sucker for "spam A with variations thrown in" games (Space Soccer is fourth).Īnyway, I'd like to know what you like in your rhythm games, commenting would be nice.Įdit: In typing in this post, I absolutely forgot mentioning my least favorites.
It's one of the most skill-requiring (even more so than Marching Orders), teaches you about the offbeats, learns you to keep the beat well, and doesn't punish you too much for semi-missing. Lockstep is an amazing game for simple reasons. There's not much reasoning behind the other two, except the different patterns Power Calligraphy throws at you without knowing, but still knowing what to do. Still my absolute favorite and it'll most likely always be. I've almost completely perfected this game, being able to do Marching Orders 2 blind and get a Superb ranking most of the time. Not to mention all variations have sprites for all orders. There's even an unused sprite that looks like a clapping animation. The pointing is only used in Marching Orders 2, there's the alien bunnies and sprites with the helmets off. Tengoku has an immense amount of Marching Orders content that is sadly barely (or not at all) used.
Another thing to add is HOW MUCH GODDAMN MARCHING ORDERS THERE IS.
Faster turns add in challenge, and there's even marching and turning at the same time, testing your dual-hand technique. The marching tests your keeping up a beat, and halting and turning spice up with a bit of reaction and recognition thrown in there. It's a simple and straightforward game, but it's also pretty tough, skill-reliant, in the right situation extremely advanced and has SO MUCH going for it. NB: If you do not wish to see my big-ass opinion, scroll to the bottom.įor example, my favorite games are Marching Orders, Power Calligraphy and Lockstep. Usually shows what kind of style of play people like, and helps you know others better. It'd be nice for me to know what everyone likes and doesn't like in Rhythm Heaven games.
